AWARENESS OF ROAD SAFETY

Road Safety Awareness

AN investment holding firm partnered with two other companies to organise a joint road safety campaign.

Allianz Malaysia held the campaign with Petrosains and Smart Reader Kids to instil important road safety behaviour for pupis from Smart Reader Kids aged five and six, as well as visitors of Petronas Street Smart.
At the campaign, children learned how to recognise basic road signs and crafted their own road safety pins - an activity that was managed by Petronas Street Smart’s facilitators.
Parents, teachers and visitors also had the opportunity to experience eight road safety exhibits in Petronas Street Smart, which highlighted different factors affecting road safety.
One of the exhibits called ‘Distraction’ provided evidence of the detrimental impact of distraction on a driver’s performance.
The interactive exhibits allowed children to play games or conduct small experiments to see for themselves the potential dangers of not being safe on the road.
For example, one exhibit demonstrated how a helmet could protect the wearer from head injury.
“We at Allianz acknowledge the importance of instilling road safety awareness not only among adults, but children as well,” said Allianz Malaysia Berhad CEO Zakri Khir.
“We would like to make the roads safe for drivers, motorcyclists and pedestrians by helping to reduce accidents, or better yet prevent them from happening altogether.
“Road safety is highly important as it affects everyone. We hope to keep Malaysians travelling on the road safe,” he said.
Allianz Malaysia distributed 50 child safety booster seats to parents and teachers of Smart Readers Kids, as well as to members of the public whose children were eligible to use the booster seats.
The child safety booster seat is designed as a child restraint to enable children to use the passenger vehicle three-point seat belt, by boosting their sitting height so that the sash part of the seat belt passes their shoulder and across the chest, and the lap part of the seat belt is worn low on the child’s lap.
Additionally, in support of the Third United Nations Global Road Safety Week, Allianz Malaysia collected safety messages and pledges supporting this year’s theme, Children and Road Safety - #SaveKidsLives.
These declarations were compiled and submitted to the official worldwide campaign Facebook page for the Third United Nations Global Road Safety Week, #SaveKidsLives.
Around 186,300 children below 18 years old die from road traffic crashes annually, and road traffic death rates are three times higher in developing countries than in developed countries. The adoption of the Children and Road Safety - #SaveKidsLives theme aims to highlight the plight of children on the world’s roads and generate action to better ensure their safety.
At the end of the campaign at Petronas Street Smart, each participant received a reflective wristband and a Road Safety Tips Booklet - a useful reminder for them to always stay safe on the road.
Allianz Malaysia has been actively promoting road safety via its collaboration with the Road Safety Department and has carried out 117 road safety advocacy campaigns nationwide, with more than 440 employees trained as road safety ambassadors.
Allianz Malaysia’s road safety initiatives in 2015 include plans to organise road safety advocacy campaigns in schools, at accident-prone areas as well as during major festivals to create road safety awareness among members of the public.
